Emeralds to cheer you up

We all survived 2020 and now it's January, which means some winter blues might be getting in. This is exactly why I want to want to talk about emerald jewelry: they might cheer you up!

The myth says that an ancient Egyptian ruler split one enormous stone down the middle and gave one half to her lover (named Marc Antony) and keeping the other half for herself. At that moment, she said emeralds are gifts for lovers.

Thousands of years on, the emerald stone enjoys royal favour. The Duchess of Cambridge wore an exclusive emerald choker and earrings set to the BAFTAs in 2018. Her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, was famously loaned Queen Mary’s emerald choker by the Queen following her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles, which she wore as a headband as well as a necklace over the years.

From real-life royalty to the Hollywood equivalent, Elizabeth Taylor was gifted with a glistening Bulgari diamond and emerald suite by her two-time husband, the actor Richard Burton in the 1960s. Appropriately, the Welsh star presented the jewelry aficionado with the set – made up of a floral diamond and emerald brooch, pear-drop earrings, a 13-emerald bracelet, a statement ring and a necklace with a detachable pendant – while the notoriously tempestuous pair were filming Cleopatra (1963).
